Are old tools better than new ones?
Wait, that's not meant to sound rude. I have been given an old plane from a good friend. I thought, that's nice but I have a couple of planes. Then I used it. Wow, what a difference. It is a WW2 Norris Smoother plane (apparently they have a good reputation). The steel in the blade is such good quality and the test run I gave it was impressive. It shaved off a hair width of timber right across the blade with no effort. They really did make them better than the new cheap planes from the large un-named hardware chain that rhymes with Runnings.
